The Health & Wellness Channel and the Florida International University Board of Trustees have signed an agreement that provides for HWC to develop a new broadcast studio in the Communication Arts Department of the University's Biscayne Bay Campus. The agreement, which had been in development since November 2015, allows for HWC to build out and equip a studio in the CommArts department of the country's fourth largest University beginning April 29, 2016. The studio, which has already been sound-proofed with a lighting grid hung, will be used for HWC's Marketplace shoots, the network's new The Health Desk health and wellness news show, as well as other shows on offer from the channel. Says HWC's Drew Nederpelt, "While the process has been long and extremely thorough (since FIU is a public, state school), we believe that having a presence on the beautiful Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU will not only benefit the network with all the human resources available, but will also allow HWC to showcase FIU's home-grown talent and facilities to the world."
HWC joins Carnival Cruise Lines on the Biscayne Bay campus which 6 years ago built the Carnival Student Center as part of an initiative with the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
